Calvin Christian awarded grant from the Chargers
ESCONDIDO — Calvin Christian School, a private school covering preschool through 12th grade, has won a $55,000 grant from the San Diego Chargers.

Calvin was one of nine schools and the first-ever Christian school to receive the “Charger Champion Grant.” More than 100 schools applied.

The $55,000 grant will fund a number of items for the sports program and physical education at the school, including a scoreboard for football and soccer, a set of large outdoor bleachers and weight room equipment.

“We are very thankful to receive this grant,” Superintendent Terry Kok said in a news release. “We couldn’t have asked for a better end to our first year offering football to our high school students.”

The monetary award was presented in late May at a ceremony at the Hotel Del Coronado.

The school, launched in the late ’60s, is situated on 25 acres and has more than 30 classrooms, a modern gymnasium, several large playing fields, a full library, two 30-station computer labs and music facilities.

The school is located at 2000 North Broadway.
